 Montage

The design of Kotas` new rail system is registered and has a patent pending.

Installation:
Installation is done by placing the rails level on to concrete pads, or fully supported on concrete, depending on the type and weight of vibrator.
Before installation the holders are fixed to the rails with the same distance between them as the concrete pads.
When connecting two rails, it may be an advantage to fix the rails on the concrete pads along the rail first. When the rails are placed and settled the plastic clip should be fixed to connect the rails and finally the concrete pads around the joints should be applied.
A tool is also available to hold the rails until the concrete is placed.

Kota Steel Screed Rail type SB.

Support:
The concrete pads are placed and levelled  with a trowel to a height of at least 50mm above the sub base. The rails with the holder are then placed on to the pads and tapped down to the exact height, using a laser or string. Concrete should then be trowelled to a height of at least half the rail. The concrete on the side of the shrink line should be trowelled smooth.
• Type S-27 is always fully supported.
• Type SB 50 and SB 70 are used with concrete pads 600 mm apart.
• Type SB- 95,  SB 115 and SB 140 are used with concrete pads 750 mm apart.

The above is valid when using a normal vibrator beam on 4 8 metre. When using a mechanical or air driven vibrator on more than 8 metres the rails have to be fully supported.

Concreting:
We recommend the constructor remember`s the following:
1v - The shrink line comes along the side of the rail, that is concreted last, under the folded edge.
2v - The rail is sprayed with release oil on the side of the shrink line.
3v - If dowel bars are used, then the slip side is the same side of the rail as the shrink line.

Vibrator:
Kota rails type SB can be used with all types of vibrator beams, and the folded edge protects the beam against wear and tear. To achieve the best result, it is a good idea to use a vibrating poker 500mm to 1000mm from the rail before the vibrator beam.
If it is necessary  to build a concrete floor without steel on the top surface, Kota steel rail type S can be used with a plastic profile on top.

Documentation:
For details of the rails ability to protect the shrink line, the system is tested by the Technological Institute in Denmark, with reference to the norm SS 923507. To make a comparison, a similar test is performed where a saw cut has defined the shrink line. Concrete quality is 30Mn/m2.
The test involved a loaded wheel, which is moved 10.000 times on the concrete surface in a S shaped movement on a 200 x 300mm area, with the rail / saw cut in the middle. Wheel Ø = 125mm and the width is 40mm. The load is 2kN. Wheel material is polyamid 6 with hardness 75 80o, Shore D.
The result of the test can be seen below, the concrete edges of the saw cut are destroyed whereas there was no destruction at all on the concrete surface where the Kota steel rail was used.
